Twickenham Stoop

Background

Harlequins Rugby Club had aspirations to redevelop their Stoop Memorial Ground, which included the development of the North, South and West stands. The site was restricted due to its Metropolitan Open Land status.

Development role

We were appointed as Development Manager for the project, advising on the overall strategy and directing the development team. We identified an opportunity to carry out a residential development on the site, which made a major contribution to the funding of the West Stand.

Outcome

We negotiated the release of the whole stadium site from its Metropolitan Open Land status, thus facilitating planning permission for the development as a whole and the residential development in particular. We negotiated the sale of the residential element to Taylor Wimpey, who built a block of 66 flats behind the East Stand.
